How to become a leader

Becoming a Missionary Advisor

Apply for the project of your choice.  Once your application fee is submitted, you will be sent a step by step guidebook and a fundraising kit.

Remember that you will be arriving 2 days early to register (confirm with your assigned missions representative) and participate in Leadership Training Camp.

As a candidate at Leadership Training camp, you will be learning small group leadership skills and moving through team development objectives, as your project directors are evaluating your leadership skills.  At the end of the Pre-trip Leadership Training Camp you will be notified if you have been selected as a Missionary Advisor.  If you are selected, you will receive ongoing guidance from your Project Directors and Team Leaders for the duration of your mission trip.

*Any Missionary Advisor Candidates that are not selected to lead will participate on the mission trip as a missionary*

Becoming a Team Leader

Team Leader candidates are required to be 21+ years of age and to attend a Global Expeditions TrueNorth Leadership Seminar, so that our staff has an opportunity to meet with them face to face.

You will need to register for the TrueNorth Leadership Seminar nearest you.

At the Seminar, you'll learn about the expectations of Global Expeditions and will be brought through a number of leadership development sessions and small group activities.  During this time you will be interviewed and evaluated by Project Directors and Global Expeditions staff.

Immediately following the seminar a 360 review is done on you by the onsite Global Expeditions staff and a determination is made on your eligibility to lead a Global Expeditions trip.

You will be notified the week following your seminar attendance, if you have been approved to fill a Team Leader position.

If you are selected to become a Team Leader, you will be assigned a representative that will follow up with you and walk you through the preparation process. You will receive a training syllabus that you'll be required to complete prior to your arrival on your mission trip and you'll be assigned Project Directors who will provide accountability, so that this leadership education program is completed in a timely manner.

Remember that you will be arriving 3 days early to register (confirm with your assigned missions representative) and participate in Leadership Training Camp in final preparation.

Becoming a Country Assistant

Country Assistant candidates are also required to be 21+ years of age and to attend a Global Expeditions TrueNorth Leadership Seminar, so that our staff have an opportunity to meet with them face to face.

Becoming a Health Coach

Becoming a Project Director

Project Directors are hand-selected by the Global Expeditions Executive Office and serve by invitation only.

While this is not a position that you can directly apply for, please know that it is most common for Team Leaders who have proven their leadership qualifications on multiple Global Expeditions trips to be invited to the Project Director position.
