On the Eastern side of Africa, Kenya has become infamous for droughts and famines, and not even tourism has been able to stabilize food prices. Instead, the devastation in the land has widened the gap between the rich and the poor and caused fighting between various ethnic groups trying to survive. With urban slums continuing to expand, there are now over 100,000 street children and orphaned households. In a nation desperate for hope, Muslims are strategically getting involved in civil service and government, and then using funding as a way to entice people to convert to Islam. But what Kenya really needs is the truth, peace, and hope of Jesus. Because Kenyans are extremely friendly and love meeting and talking to foreigners, you can bring that message to them by doing school assemblies and open market ministry! Get involved in the Great Commission and share Christ’s love with Kenya!
Romans 10:14-15, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher. And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”

A Missionary’s Story
Today our team went to church in the community where we have been ministering for the last 3 days. The worship was lively. The people were dancing, and the team was rejoicing. Then the pastor asked all the new people to the church to stand and 25 new people stood in this church of about 240. Our team recognized these faces, because they were people we prayed with earlier in the week! Our team shared testimonies and delivered the main sermon. At the end 8 more people committed their lives to Christ! That’s a total of 49 people who have given their lives to Christ in just 4 days of ministry! We have become so close – almost like family, and we have been changed by this incredible country and by God’s presence in our lives.
Quick Facts
Background: Founding president and liberation struggle icon Jomo KENYATTA led Kenya from independence in 1963 until his death in 1978, when President Daniel Toroitich arap MOI took power in a constitutional succession. The country was a de facto one-party state from 1969 until 1982 when the ruling Kenya African National Union (KANU) made itself the sole legal party in Kenya. MOI acceded to internal and external pressure for political liberalization in late 1991. The ethnically fractured opposition failed to dislodge KANU from power in elections in 1992 and 1997, which were marred by violence and fraud, but were viewed as having generally reflected the will of the Kenyan people. President MOI stepped down in December 2002 following fair and peaceful elections. Mwai KIBAKI, running as the candidate of the multiethnic, united opposition group, the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC), defeated KANU candidate Uhuru KENYATTA and assumed the presidency following a campaign centered on an anticorruption platform. KIBAKI’s NARC coalition splintered in 2005 over the constitutional review process. Government defectors joined with KANU to form a new opposition coalition, the Orange Democratic Movement, which defeated the government’s draft constitution in a popular referendum in November 2005. KIBAKI’s reelection in December 2007 brought charges of vote rigging from ODM candidate Raila ODINGA and unleashed two months of violence in which as many as 1,500 people died. UN-sponsored talks in late February produced a power sharing accord bringing ODINGA into the government in the restored position of prime minister.
